Ginga: Home

ginga leanIII.jpg

Ginga has been playing and dancing the samba in the Brazilian music scene of Colorado since 2004. Founded by Francisco Marques, born in Sao Paulo, and Greg LaLiberte, a classical and jazz musician by training, the group specializes in the sounds of Rio playing pagode (roda de samba), choro (instrumental music from the clubs of Rio), bossa nova, samba, and Brazilian jazz. A Ginga show can span the breadth of concert performance to party, from fine listening music to dancing and singing with the band, the latter emphasizing the spirit of community so evident in Brazilian music. At home playing festivals, concert halls, clubs, parties, wine bars, and coffee houses, Ginga is dedicated to the sounds of Brazil and sharing the energy inherent in the music. Ginga has also founded Ginga Grande, devoted to pagode, and Boulder Bateria, a thirty-piece samba batucada percussion ensemble playing the street carnival music of Brazil.
